Modeling Cerebral Blood Flow Control During Posture Change From Sitting to Standing
نویسندگان
چکیده
Hypertension, decreased cerebral blood flow, and diminished cerebral blood flow velocity regulation, are among the first signs indicating the presence of cerebral vascular disease. In this paper, we will present a mathematical model that can predict blood flow and pressure during posture change from sitting to standing. The mathematical model uses a compartmental approach to describe pulsatile blood flow velocity and pressure in a number of compartments representing the systemic circulation. Our model includes compartments representing the trunk and upper extremities, the lower extremities, the brain, and the heart. We use physiologically based control mechanisms to describe the regulation of cerebral blood flow velocity and arterial pressure in response to orthostatic hypotension resulting from postural change. To justify the fidelity of our mathematical model and control mechanisms development, we will show validation results of our model against experimental data from a young subject.

Short-term cardiovascular responses to postural change from sitting to standing involve complex interactions between the autonomic nervous system, which regulates blood pressure, and cerebral autoregulation, which maintains cerebral perfusion. We present a mathematical model that can predict dynamic changes in beat-to-beat arterial blood pressure and middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity d...

The dynamic cerebral blood flow response to sudden hypotension during posture change is poorly understood. To better understand the cardiovascular response to hypotension, we used a windkessel model with two resistors and a capacitor to reproduce beat-to-beat changes in middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity (transcranial Doppler measurements) in response to arterial pressure changes measur...

The transfer function relating arterial pressure (AP) to cerebral blood flow velocity (CBFV) during resting conditions has been used to predict the CBFV response to hypotension. We hypothesized that this approach could predict the CBFV response to posture change in elderly individuals if impaired autoregulation allowed changes in AP to be passively transferred to CBFV. AP (Finapres) and CBFV (m...

UNLABELLED To determine whether hemodynamic parameters are changed by upright posture in healthy middle-aged humans, absolute values of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) were investigated for three different orthostatic conditions. METHODS PET with [15O]H2O and arterial blood sampling were performed on eight middle-aged healthy volunteers while they were sitting passively or standing active...
متن کاملOrthopnoea and the Effect of Posture upon the Rate of Blood Flow.
Lindhard (1) has noted that, of seven subjects, three, all of them females, had a slower rate of blood flow in the sitting than in the recumbent posture while the four male subjects showed practically no change. As far as we know these are the only direct observations in the literature concerning the effect of posture on blood flow. We have made thirteen determinations of the circulatory rate w...
